As much as i remember i have never asked support. I have solved all the issues myself + it's always a good idea to have backups)
I kinda even like that "powered by phpbb" part)

Same here, and usually, issues I couldn't solve myself was rectified with a google search finding an older support topic with a similar issue.

Server side issues or something similar that can't be solved by phpbb support as those are out of scope.. may be solved by uncle google.
As you already mentioned.. google is always there for us and doesn't take a lot of time to get some answers)

I'm kidding with the bolded part. I see no reason to remove copyright and I'm not that bothered by a potential lack of support.
You could just modify the copyright. "Original portions copyright phpBB.com-and-so-on; modifications copyright me, or whatever"

When GanstaZ finishes his fork of phpBB (yes, he is making one), and I install it here, I would be sure to modify the footer to ensure that he gets credit for it.

Any custom changes I made will be undone. Of course the database will remain the same, so no users or posts, etc. would be lost.

Do you guys think I should block guests and bots from viewing profiles/memberlist? I know the default permissions is to block both from viewing profiles, but I changed the permissions.

Do you think I should change it back? I can understand the privacy aspect of it.

I bit the bullet and changed the permissions back. Spambots after all would love to hide things in their profile fields and get indexed by search engines, so I really shouldn't allow profiles to be indexed.

Never thought I'd see someone so blatantly lie about what phpBB version they use, but here we are.

Yeah.. that person has steal balls)
It's not the first time i have seen him/her getting attention in support section)
One of those mod era people.

I would say that phpBB community with its support for custom coding & automatic (advanced) update is partially responsible for posts like that.
