Most people from what I can gather prefer it on the left side. I certainly prefer the left as well.

Why the default in prosilver is to have it on the right is a mystery to me.

I don't know. I don't remember it correctly, but something tells me, that it was left side a long time ago.
Maybe left side was default in my setup.. Hmm.. Hard to say.

Ever since at least phpBB 3.0.x the default was the profiles being to the right.

Moving it to the left always required custom code, either in the form of MODifications or Extensions.

Not every change needs a mod/extension.. Child style solves a lot of issues as well, if done inna right way.

Hopefully there are no side effects but I disabled the topic view count. Got tired of looking at it, and I have no idea why it even exists, since it means nothing, and view counts can be incremented simply by refreshing the page displaying the topic.

View count is just data.. I don't think that it should have any side effects.

True, though I honestly was worried about inadvertently removing adjacent code that's needed.

I'm careful but I have a tendency to pointlessly second guess myself.

That's why some people don't relay on unit tests & do a lot of manual testing as well.

Yeah, I did manual testing on an offline server and scrutinized what I wanted to remove.

Hopefully phpBB4 will have the ability to simply disable it in the Load Settings, if it comes out.

It's one of those things that shouldn't be there. Just like post subjects separate from the main topic, though someone's extension fixed that here.
